How to Fake a Fresh Kitchen
…so, is motherhood just cleaning your kitchen over and over again until you die?
Coffee, breakfast, clean, snacks, lunch, clean, snacks…second snack, dinner clean..post bath cereal…clean…adult late night snackage….clean. Wakeup…repeat. If I’m not wiping butts, I’m wiping countertops.
Even though we constantly feel like we are cleaning our kitchens (or at least wiping them down for the 9th time since breakfast) sometimes they are still missing that fresh factor. And sometimes, you don’t actually have time to make that happen…so you have to learn to fake it.

Flowers
Fruit
Food
Flame
Flowers are an inexpensive way to add instant freshness to your kitchen (or any room really). I am a big fan of hydrangeas. They can last for weeks and will fill a vase or pitcher with just a few stems.
Fruit like lemons can add freshness through smell and sight. Add some sea salt and scrub down your sink, toss them in your disposal or cut up a few wedges and add them to a pitcher of water.
Food on display on a cake plate or a platter makes your kitchen feel inviting. It’s an easy addition before guests arrive. (And nobody said those muffins have to be homemade…)
Flame of a lightly scented candle can make a room seem fresh in seconds. Essential oils and diffusers are a great alternative if you’re against open flames. You can’t beat the smell of Antique Candle Co.’s Clean Cotton or B&B’s Rose Water & Ivy.
